Week of Oct. 19–24, 2026. This Eagle County weekly catch-up covers the approaching election deadline, the first mountain snow and Vail Valley winter plans. Here are the stories and dates worth saving.
Start with your ballot, then choose how to return it
If you have not opened your ballot yet, use our guide to find your address-specific Eagle County sample ballot. It explains why a neighbor may see different local races or measures. For statewide questions, our plain-English TABOR guide explains why some tax and revenue decisions go to voters.
The time-sensitive part is delivery. Colorado ballots must reach election officials by 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3; a postmark does not count. The Colorado County Clerks Association recommends that voters stop using the mail after Monday, Oct. 26. That recommendation is not a separate legal deadline. Our ballot-deadline guide explains official drop boxes, voting centers and registration options. After you return a ballot, track its status through the state’s system. You can also start at GoVoteColorado.gov.
Look beyond the headline on your ballot
Colorado’s judicial-retention questions can be easy to skip if you do not know what they ask. Our judicial-retention guide points to the official evaluations and explains what a yes or no vote does. Eagle County voters can also use our assessor race guide to understand what that office controls before comparing candidates.
Take the first snow seriously
A thin early-season snowpack does not make steep terrain harmless. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center has warned that avalanche hazards can develop with the first storms. Our early-season avalanche update explains why exposed rocks, wind drifts and changing conditions matter. Check the CAIC current forecast for your exact route immediately before heading into the backcountry.
Winter plans are taking shape
Resorts are publishing their planned opening dates, but weather and snowmaking will decide what actually opens. Use our ski-opening guide as a starting point, then check the resort directly before traveling. Off the slopes, Vail’s free Stoke Sessions are scheduled to begin Nov. 13. The calendar lists three concerts through Dec. 4, not a show every Friday.
One community date to save
SpeakUp ReachOut lists a free, all-ages Día de Muertos gathering in Eagle for Sunday, Nov. 1, from 1 to 4 p.m. The organizer describes food, music, crafts and remembrance at the Eagle Fairgrounds. Check its registration page and any schedule updates before going.
