Planning a first ski day at Vail and Beaver Creek? A date on the calendar is a starting point, but it does not tell you which lifts and runs will be ready when you arrive.

Vail Mountain lists Nov. 13, 2026, as its opening day. Beaver Creek lists Wednesday, Nov. 25. Beaver Creek explicitly notes that operating dates and hours can change. Treat both as planned starts, not promises of a particular amount of skiable terrain.

What will be open at Vail and Beaver Creek?

Neither a planned opening date nor snow on nearby peaks answers that question. Snowmaking, weather and mountain-safety work affect which trails and lifts can operate. Vail’s terrain and lift status page and Beaver Creek’s terrain and lift status page are the places to check close to your visit. Look again on the morning you ski.

Vail explains that it may close terrain for snowmaking, unsuitable snow conditions or avalanche-mitigation work. A closed run is not an invitation to explore it. Follow signs and ski-patrol directions. Read Vail’s snow-safety guidance.

A simple pre-trip checklist

  • Check the resort’s current opening announcement and daily lift-and-terrain report.
  • Confirm your ticket or pass is valid for the date and resort you plan to visit.
  • If you booked a lesson or rental, verify its meeting point, pickup location and time with the operator.
  • Check the Colorado road report and the National Weather Service forecast for your route and destination.
  • Have a backup plan if terrain or travel conditions differ from what you expected.

If you are new to the valley, our Vail Village guide and visitor essentials can help with the rest of the trip. Opening dates and operating details were checked against resort pages on Oct. 24, 2026; check them again before leaving.
