The proposed pickleball facilities at Eagle’s geothermal remediation site will not move forward. Eagle County, the Town of Eagle and Mountain Recreation announced the joint decision on Oct. 29 after community discussions.
The decision applies to this site. The partners have not announced that they are ending work on the community’s broader recreation needs.
What will happen at the site?
Eagle County plans to update its site plans over the winter. According to the town’s announcement, those plans will include resiliency improvements such as vehicle charging stations. The announcement gives no construction timetable or final site design, so residents should watch for the county’s updated plans before assuming which features will be built.
The three partners say they will continue working together on recreation opportunities. Their notice does not name a replacement location for the proposed pickleball facilities.
Where can people play now?
The site decision does not end existing pickleball programs. Mountain Recreation lists drop-in pickleball at the Gypsum Recreation Center and Edwards Field House; check each facility’s current calendar and pricing before visiting. It also lists an Eagle co-rec pickleball league, with registration windows that vary by season.
For residents following the geothermal site, the next useful document will be Eagle County’s revised plan. It should clarify which improvements are proposed, their timing and whether there will be another opportunity for public input.
