An overnight trip between Eagle County and Denver could take a detour next week. The Colorado Department of Transportation has scheduled one eastbound and two westbound full closures of Interstate 70 near Idaho Springs as crews work on the Floyd Hill project.
The work is weather-dependent. Drivers should check CDOT’s current advisory and COtrip before leaving.
Eastbound: Sunday night, Oct. 18
CDOT plans to close eastbound I-70 from 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, between Idaho Springs Exit 241 and Hidden Valley/Central City Parkway Exit 243. Eastbound drivers will exit at 241, follow County Road 314 and rejoin I-70 at 243.
The eastbound Exit 243 off-ramp is scheduled to remain closed longer: from 9 p.m. Oct. 18 through 6 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23. Drivers headed to Hidden Valley should use Exit 241 and County Road 314, CDOT says.
Westbound: Monday and Tuesday nights
Westbound I-70 is scheduled to close at US 6 Exit 244 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Oct. 19–20 and again on Oct. 20–21. Drivers will use the Exit 244 off- and on-ramps to continue west.
CDOT lists Oct. 25–26 as the backup window for the eastbound full closure and Oct. 26–27 and 27–28 for the westbound closures if weather or other conditions delay the work. The longer eastbound ramp closure could also shift to Oct. 25–30.
The closures are in Clear Creek County, but they matter to Vail Valley residents traveling to or from the Front Range. For project alerts, text floydhill to 21000, as directed in CDOT’s notice.
