Beaver Creek has a different kind of mountain-night soundtrack on Tuesday, Oct. 27. Colombian accordionist and bandleader Yeison Landero is scheduled to bring cumbia to the Vilar Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m.
The public concert is part of the Vilar’s Love for the Locals series. The venue also lists a separate 12:30 p.m. STARS educational performance for school groups. If you are choosing tickets, make sure you select the evening show.
What will the evening show be like?
Landero’s music draws on the cumbia tradition of Colombia’s Caribbean coast. He is the grandson of Andrés Landero, a leading figure in the genre. The Vilar says the orchestra pit will be open for dancing, so the evening is designed for listeners who want to move as well as watch.
The venue lists general admission and a multi-show pass among its ticket options. It says each Love for the Locals ticket includes one draft beer, wine or nonalcoholic drink. Check the official concert listing for current availability, prices and the full ticket terms before making plans.
For a first-time listener, this is a chance to hear how the accordion leads a dance rhythm that is central to Colombian cumbia. The Vilar describes Landero as both a performer and a keeper of the tradition he learned through his family. The show is a concert, not a lecture, and the open dance space gives the audience a way to participate.
